Recognizing the choice in our lives <> Edith Eger (link)

There is no freedom without responsibility — recognizing your actions have consequences

The worst prisons we experience are the ones we make for ourselves — the foundation of freedom is the ability to choose

Pay attention to what you pay attention to

If you have something to prove you’re still a prisoner

The opposite of depression is expression, what stays in our bodies makes us ill

Our desire to belong and be a part of something larger than ourselves is what makes us human.

Spirituality is the belief that we are inextricably connected to one another. It is underpinned by a deep sense of compassion.

True belonging demands that we be who we are even when it means disagreeing with others. It does not mean conformity.

You cannot truly belong until you are willing to stand alone.

When you stand up for what you believe in, you feel connected for everyone else who is done so. When you suppress your beliefs in the name of belonging, you don’t feel connected to anyone.

People are hard to hate close up.

We are the most sorted we have ever been. We have sorted ourselves into ideological subgroups where the shared connection is common enemy intimacy—hating the same person. This is counterfeit connection. We don’t bond over hate we bond over love.

It is easier for people to inflict pain than to feel their own. Outrage is rewarded, vulnerability is not. This is changing.

Strong back soft front wild heart. Tend to your beliefs without degrading others’.

One of the greatest acts of courage is to be vulnerable with someone with whom we disagree.

There is no courage without vulnerability. Bravery without vulnerability is not true courage. It’s posturing.

We are the most dangerous to ourselves and others when we are in fear.
