By Marcus Aurelius
“States will never be happy until rulers become philosophers or philosophers become rulers” // Plato
The three disciplines of stoicism:
- Exercise stringent control over the faculty of perception, with the aim of protecting our mind from error (perception)
- In our relationships with others we must work for a collective good, while treating them justly and fairly as individuals (action)
- We control our own actions and are responsible for them, but things outside of our control have no ability to harm us (will)
Everywhere at each moment you will have an option:
- Accept this event with humility (will)
- Treat this person as he should be treated (action)
- Approach this thought with care, so nothing irrational creeps in (perception)
